Q. Why did you join Homage?
“I joined Homage because of my passion for aged care. My mother worked for an aged care facility for most of her career, so I would spend time volunteering during Christmas and other holidays. While most of the time I was simply serving the punch at the Christmas lunch (an important job no less!), this gave me a chance to interact with the residents. Getting to know them gave me an insight into the type of people who can best help them. Working with Homage allows me to utilise and build on my knowledge to enhance the lives of those who require care.”
Q. Storytime – Could you please tell me more about your background & past work experience?
Michael was born and raised in Melbourne and graduated with a Bachelor of Business from Victoria University. He worked as an archives clerk at Arnold Bloch Leibler, and then COVID happened. During the unusual COVID period, he worked for the family business. Michael developed many technical skills during this time, which he has come to use and further develop at Homage.
Q. What do you enjoy the most about being…
-
In the organisation (Homage)?
Michael says, “First and foremost are the people you work with. Homage is a wonderful group of people who create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere making it a joy to come into the office.”. He also adds, “The ability to work in the office and at home lends itself well to the type of work I do, so I enjoy the balance and flexibility.”
-
In the industry (Healthcare)?
Michael highlights, “By working in the healthcare industry, I can gain knowledge daily, which can positively affect people’s lives!”
-
In your role (Live Operations)?
Michael says he enjoys a role that allows him to have the opportunity to interact with carers and try his best to help them achieve their goals while doing the same for those they are supporting.
Q. How do you find Homage’s work culture, people and D&I initiatives?
“Homage’s work culture is the most enjoyable and welcoming I’ve experienced in my professional career!!”. Michael says it’s effective and rewarding for him to work closely with a small group of people, sharing ideas and then expanding on them with the broader team as a whole. He adds the office atmosphere is always friendly, and the leaders bring everyone together through events or celebrations (Axe throwing was a standout!!). He also says, “Diversity of the office reminds me of my time at University. I enjoy contributing how a wide variety of people from different backgrounds are working towards the same goal!”

Q. What does a day in the life as a Live Operations Associate look like at Homage?
“I’ve been given the freedom to create many of my own processes, which I’ve adapted to suit my work and skills. My work focuses on fulfilling visit requests based on a variety of factors. A general day involves filling visits with experienced carers, and on the two days I spend in the office, I work with other teams to improve the process and make it better for us and our carers.”
Q. What is the greatest achievement you’ve made since you joined Homage?
Michael says the highlight of the last three months at Homage was working closely with the partnerships team to take aged care facility fulfilment to 100% for a period of 2-3 weeks. “Through this improvement, other facilities reached out to us and took us on as a provider, leading to more work for our carers and less stress on the facilities” Michael added.
Q. Is there a touching story you have experienced while working with Homage?
‘There have been numerous stories of Homagers who can relate to the feeling of having someone in need who requires a carer they can depend on. Our Country Manager Ben, in particular, shared a touching story close to him, showing how much the work we do means to him and the effect it had on his loved ones.”
Q. Any words you’d like to share with a future Homager?
“No matter the role, you’re surrounded by loving and caring people, each of who have a passion for their work. It was a great onboarding experience and easy to learn the systems because you have numerous people there to help. I look forward to meeting you!
