What drew you to Homage and when did you join? Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I spent over 4 years living in the Middle East before moving to Melbourne in 2019 to do my master’s. I was prepared to start a new chapter in my life when, in 2021, after completing the master’s degree, I received a call from Reggie (our People & Culture Associate), who had seen my Seek profile and believed that I would be a good fit for the Live Operations Associate position and she was right! Reggie made me feel at ease throughout our pleasant phone conversion, and I became interested in the organisation. I started looking into Homage (what it is about and services) and what I discovered quite impressed me. The rest is history! Since I’ve been working with Homage for roughly 8 months now, I already feel like I’ve had a positive influence on a lot of individuals. I’ve always wanted to give back to the community for which I used to occasionally find time to work with not-for-profit organisations, but now I do it every day through Homage.
What does a Live Operations Associate’s normal day entail?
Although my profile says “Live Operations Associate”, I prefer to call it “the matchmaker” for a couple of reasons. It appears straightforward on paper, but I must confess that it is not. As a Live Operations Associate/ Matchmaker, I am always very focused as I have to carefully assign visits to care professionals, identify care recipients’ needs without interacting with them, and work depending solely on the information provided. I collaborate closely with numerous teams every day, and my role has facilitated my ability to get to know practically all of the teams within the company. I finish my day with a good feeling of being able to help at least one person who needs immediate care.
What drives you to be successful in your position?
Working for a company with a mission is one thing; being motivated by that mission and assisting the company in achieving its goals is quite another.
When I heard Gillian (CEO and founder of Homage), it was the first time in my life that I actually heard from someone first hand who is genuinely making a difference in people’s lives. And not just for care recipients, but also for health care workers out there who want to help people and provide them with the opportunity to work at their pace and allow them the independence that we all need as individuals and professionals. I was really inspired by our CEO when she was speaking about Homage.
I identify strongly with our CEO, and the goal of delivering holistic care inspires me to work hard.
