Women’s Health Week at Homage Australia

Women's Health Week is held in September each year! Our female leaders at Homage Australia have shared their thoughts on health and how they balance work and life as a manager!

by Team Homage

Prioritising both mental and physical health is important, yet it is often neglected and mismanaged, especially when you are too busy focusing on your career journey. Women’s Health Week is a great opportunity to bring awareness to health matters and the general wellbeing of women. We received some insights from our Homage Australia female leaders who shared their thoughts on women’s health and tips on how they maintain work-life balance while managing their teams.

Back (From left): Lechée – Marketing Manager, Jess – Care Advisory Manager.

Q1. What do you enjoy doing in your downtime What are your hobbies etc?

Lisa, our People and Culture Manager is a mother of four young children. She says she loves going for a walk along the river every day. She also enjoys family time, spending quality time together outdoors walking, kayaking or cycling.

Lechée our Marketing Manager, is a mother to a pre-teenage daughter and two adorable fur babies. She says, “I’m a social person, so I spend my downtime with friends and family who fill my emotional bucket with joy and laughter! I love an afternoon of entertaining at home with good food and great company. I love family time with my husband and our daughter – whether that be family movie nights, vegging out on the couch, a morning at the local farmers market or walking our two dogs.”

Q2. How do you prioritise your health – Be it physical or mental health?

Ki Yiu, our AU Expansion Manager is the very first employee of Homage Australia! “From a physical health perspective, I do yoga and callisthenics – a combination of strength and flexibility training. When it comes to mental health, I talk with my loved ones. Having a conversation with my friends and family when needed makes me feel lighter and helps me get through tough things much easier than by myself. When the time allows, I would take trips to nature to relax and detox.”

Jessica, our Care Advisory Manager, joined the team in January and her team is the very first point of contact for our Care Organisor/ Recipients. She says, “I prioritise both my mental and physical health by ensuring I carve out enough time each day to move my body or be in nature.”

Q3. Why do you think a week to highlight women’s health is important?

Jani, our City Manager (Perth) is the most recent member of the team, joined the Homage family in July to oversee Perth development. She says “A week to highlight women’s health is important because we should erase any stigma around women’s health. I believe in general, we should encourage awareness around health despite the person’s demographic  – whether that be women’s, men’s, mental health, or any other health issue!”

Jessica says, “As a woman, sometimes I feel like we forget to care for ourselves the same way we do for the others in our lives.”. She thinks Women’s Health Week is a really great way to highlight the need to put our health and well-being first, so we can continue to care for others.

Q4. Do you think work/life balance affects health?

Both Lechée and Jani say, “Absolutely!”

Jani says, “An unbalanced lifestyle is not sustainable in the long term. You should always take the time to have a proper lunch and not always eat at your desk!”

Lechée adds,When there’s an imbalance stress levels increase, sleep is impacted, and there’s a greater risk of becoming physically unwell because you’re run down. We talk a lot about work-life balance, and I think it’s important to remember that the formula to achieve it is different for everyone. Having said that, physical and emotional well-being should always be the priority when trying to strike the right balance that works in your life”

Q5. How does Homage support and promote women?

There are a number of issues that continue to impact women in the workplace – lack of opportunity, gender pay gap, and career opportunities for leadership and executive roles to name a few. Homage is proud to both support and promote women in the workplace, starting at the very top with our CEO and Founder Gillian Tee leading the way.

Both Lisa and Ki Yiu pointed out that at Homage Australia, we value gender equality in the workplace and this is also reflected in our hiring process.

Lisa says “We recruit people based on their skills and knowledge, not their gender. In Australia, 40% of our leadership team are women.”

Ki Yiu also mentions, “Homage values a balanced pool of people in our hiring process. Also, I am very proud to say that we have inclusive business discussions despite people’s age, ethnicities and gender ”
